Did you know…
Somewhere out by Edmonton’s International Airport is a racetrack? They do all sorts of racing out there at Castrol Raceway. From drag races, to sprint cars on a dirt oval, to regular track racing, and even drifting. Which for you people who don’t know what that is, is cars going sideways at high speed, because – why not?
I’ve always had an interest in cars, and I remember the first time I went to a drifting event with my first camera and first lens, shooting from the stands and seeing other people on the track and thinking “Hmmm, I could do that…” and then somehow I ultimately did do that. Honestly – I don’t remember how it happened, it just did. Luckily, photographing race cars came very natural to me, thanks to my panning practice in China & Hong Kong. Given, these cars were travelling a lot quicker than anything I panned before, but the concept is more or less the same.
I’ve only been shooting drifting for 2 summers, and there aren’t too many events in the Edmonton area, so you could say my experience is limited, but below is my 25 favourite shots from my time shooting cars going sideways.
